Definition: (1) Junk email; unwanted email; unsolicited email sent to you by an individual or company you have had no previous dealings with. (2) Many copies of the same commercial message posted to multiple online forums and newsgroups without regard to the relevance of the message to the members of that forum.
Bulk email is very inexpensive to send compared to traditional junk mail you receive at home. This has made spam very popular among some businesses, who send out unsolicited mass email messages and post messages across many forums, without regard to the relevance of the message to the recipients. Spam is considered a serious breech of netiquette, and legislation is in the works to ban spam and punish those who send it.
