What the HECK is this?!

Ok, I was checking up on some stuff at allmusic.com and I came across something very strange. A gospel-type singer, Desmond Pringle, has an album out called Loyalty. Very religious stuff, titles like "Jesus Is the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me". Anyway, there are two tracks on the album called With Arms Wide Open. On the album, they're accredited to Stapp and Tremonti. So I looked up the two tracks further, and it's definitely the song, only changed slightly. The first version has kind of a rasta guy singing the lyrics with a pop beat, and the second is an "urban remix" (not rap or anything).

What I'm wondering is, how did this arrangement come about? Did this Desmond Pringle just ask Creed for the permission to mix their song around and release it on a Christian album?

The AllMusic link here shows some details on the album, and here you can listen to clips of the songs.

This is the first time I've seen this before, so I'm really confused.
