Christmas Time

Ok guys!!!
Do you like Christmas or you just think it's just marketing to make us consume and buy things???
What's the most you like and dislike about Christmas????

:D :D :D :D

I love being with my family on Christmas. I love putting up the tree with the girls, seeing the light in their eyes when they put each ornament on. I love seeing their eyes light up when we turn on the lights on the tree and put out the lights in the room. Being together as a family is what I love best.

I hate the commercialism of the holiday. I hate the "I want I want" I hear every 5 seconds.

Like
1. Free stuff
2. Christmas spirit
3. Family get-togethers and reunions.
4. Giving people Presents.
5. 2 weeks off school
6. Egg nog

Dont like.
1. Spending my money on presents
2. I think christmas's whole real "meaning" has been loss through the commercialism
3. Trying to get presents for everyone at the last second and not being able to get anywhere.
4. Having No clue what to ask for. (i dont really need anything)
5. Those christmas specials that ruin my perfectly good TV sceduel to replace my normal programs with 20 year old movies ive already seen 10 times over

I can't stand commercialism. Go figure, I work for Target. We had Christmas stuff out back behind our Halloween stuff about 1 month ago. And now we've still got 1 1/2 months to go. aughhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! here's to hoping i don't get stuck in toys too much!

I love christmas, it basically starts ski season (im a huge skier). Its also one of the only times of the year where i actually see my whole family. I am getting sick of the political correctness of it though imo. I dont like how every one has to say "Happy holidays" instead of "merry Christmas" even on christmas day

ps isnt it a little early to think about christmas its like november 7th lol

i should clarify... i love winter, i just hate its commercialism

I love spending time with my family. That's the best part of Christmas. I hate that gift-buying is completely out of hand and it has turned into one big competition to outdo each other. I have tried to get my family to take money they would spend on me at Christmas and donate it to worthy causes or to people who really need it, but they haven't bitten yet. I'll keep trying, though.

You know what i posted that topic, Scrit??? Because here in London is already Christmas... i mean that the whole shops in this city got the Christmas decoration and on tv all the comercials are about Christmas... and i was wondering that maybe was good idea. But i think every year Christmas comes earlier and earlier. I hate that.Maybe cuz i am almost in my 30's and i don't feel the excitement that when i was younger. :D :D :D :D

I love the Christmas air. All the marriment, decking the halls, the fa la la la la, and of course the mistletoe. There's something about Christmas that feels good. It could be because it's one of the few times a year people are thinking about doing good things for others instead of just themselves. I've also been listening to my Christmas CD's for about a month or so now. :)

The commercialism has definetly gotten to be too much, as many of you have posted, but in retropect, it's commercialized BECAUSE we consume. Furby, Tickle-Me-Elmo, Tamagatchi, and all the other toys that are the "must haves" are only so because we will them to be.

H-D :pimp:

in my family (on my dad's side, all of whom lives in town), to combat the commercial aspect Dogstar mentioned, we draw names at Thanksgiving time, and we have to buy a gift for that person between $10-$40... nothing else is "mandatory", so it helps my Granny so she doesn't have to buy gifts for all 11 of us, compared to my family of 5 buying gifts for 7

I enjoy Christmas, just getting together with family and sharing gifts, but I have always been jealous of you guys in the northern hemisphere with your white Christmases. Christmas day in Australia is usually one of the hottest summer days. Most people have ditched the idea of a hot turkey lunch and now have BBQ's at the beach or so on which is fun but it would be nice to experience Christmas in winter one day.

I like Christmas, I like the fact that I can give something to a loved one. As for the commercialism, it doesnt bother me all that much. I do most of my shopping online so I dont get bombarded as much. Nor do I have to put on pants! Anyway, As I was saying... I still buy presents for those that either don't believe in Christmas, Christ, or aren't Christians. Just for them the gift has to be more meaningful. I once dated an Arab girl who obviously doesnt celebrate Christmas and I still bought her a gift. My response to that was; "Don't consider it a Christmas present, just think of it as a free gift. Everyone loves a free gift."
