Creed and Alice In Chains
I know that that we all know that Creed has been compared to Pearl Jam multiple times. But I recently also read that some people think that Creed took some things from Alice In Chains (no, I'm not confusing this with the Alice In Chains/Godsmack controversy). I think that this is somewhat of a strange comparison, although there are a few similarities, namely, between Stapp and Staley's voice. That being said, I don't think that Creed directly ripped anything off of AIC, like I don't think that they ripped off anything from Pearl Jam.

Stapp is baritone. Staley is tenor. They don't sound alike at all IMHO.

Oh heck no >.> Layne and Scott? Nahh. Now we're just grasping at straws. Stapp sounds like Stapp, 'nuff said... |

I have to agree with this entirely. Being a lead singer of a band that covers both creed and AIC, i have to say that singing one is a completely different story from singing the other. Now, when im singing Pearl Jam or STP, sometimes i catch myself reverting to my Creed sound basically because they are somewhat similar. Stapp has a grunge voice much like vedder and weiland, but there are still a lot of differences. Vedder for instance has a constant wavering sound in his voice, he does a vibrato that stapp doesnt do, and he also does a lot of Falsettos, or false high notes. Weiland does more nasal/gutteral sounds with his voice than stapp and vedder. Layne Staley on the other hand, is very high and nasal throughout most of his singing, and when he goes low, its a shallow low that comes from the chest, and not the gut. Don't know how good of a comparison that is, but its a basic projection on how i feel when i sing the songs. |

That's a cool perspective, and an accurate one, I think.

Re: Creed and Alice In Chains
I'm glad someone else pays attention to singers' voices as much as I do, I felt kind of weird about noticing EVERY nuance in voices. |

Re: Creed and Alice In Chains
Btw - it would be interesting if Stapp for example joined Alice In Chains instead of DuVall...
