"The Lord will perfect the salvation of every true believer."

God has a purpose and plan for each of our lives. The greatest thing we can do is to find that purpose and live it out. We can trust his purpose in us because it is based on his wisdom and love. As long as we seek his will, we're not going to do anything that can ultimately spoil his purpose in us. Yes, we may at times stray from the perfect channel he wants us to travel, but we never get totally out of the main channel. As long he does not abandon us, (and he promised he never would forsake us he will use us) for his purposes.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever -- do not abandon the works of your hands.

It is not easy to balance the two truths: "I must not be prideful, but I must understand just how much God values me." Satan can use our self- denigration, the worthless worm syndrome, to discourage us and keep us from using our gifts for Kingdom work. Prayer request for our Bear...

Please include in your prayers today a shout out for our precious Bear. He is one of our younger cats that has somehow ingested poison from one of our neighbor's properties and is currently at the vet getting his kidneys flushed and under sedation for convulsions. We should know today if he is going to pull through and our entire family needs any help we can get to get through this very difficult time... Thanks gang.

Sharing your lap with your cat, playing catch with your dog, watching your fish swim and listening to your bird sing are more than just ways to have fun. They can be spiritual experiences, too, in the sense that they can help you learn more about relating to the God who made the animals you love. Pets inspire you to use your time well, living fully in the present. Pets' lives are usually more brief than humans' lives. The time you can share with them is time to treasure, not to waste. Even though your life span might be longer, God wants you to treasure every day as a precious gift. Caring for an injured pet who depends on your generosity helps you learn how to serve others and appreciate the many ways God has compassion on you.

Our Bear is still at the Vets, he is showing slow signs of improvement but has yet to regain his balance or stand up on his own. He turns left all of the time which indicates the side of the brain that hemmoraged and we are praying he can get past this final step of healing by Monday without suffering any permanent neurological damage. He is eating on his own, and the eye twitching is minimal. We get to visit him today at 11:00, updates asap. A good friend sent me this to break the monotony... Thanks again for your prayers gang.

Christianity is not a purely intellectual, internal faith. It can be lived only in community. At a deep level, I sense that our board contains something I desperately need. Whenever I abandoned any community/church for a time, I found that I was the one who suffered. My faith faded, and the crusty shell of lovelessness grew over me again. I grew colder rather than hotter. Just wanted to thank you for your support, the opportunity to be here, and and the friends I have made along the way that keep me going...

Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.

I believe that bitterness is what the writer of Hebrews had in mind when he penned his warnings. In today’s text, some of the Christians may have been considering returning to Judaism because of persecution and injustice. Like a small root that grows into a great tree, bitterness could spring up in their hearts and overshadow their deepest Christian relationships.

Looking carefully... lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.

"Our pastor was replaced."

Dismissed from his position with no clear explanation, seemed he was having issues with some in the congregation as of late but I didn't see this coming... Well pastors are people, too. They make mistakes, and just because they choose to serve God does not mean they will do everything the way God would do it. Too many people place pastors high up on pedestals, only to watch them come tumbling down. Only God is capable of total love and care. His forgiveness is what really matters. Often pastors can help us find God's will for our lives, but in those cases where they do not, God will still reach down to us, lifting us in love, sharing with us His mercy and truth.

But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

The Bible sometimes emphasizes the distance between humans and God and sometimes the closeness. Without question, though, Jesus Himself taught us to count on the closeness. In His own prayers He used the word Abba (Daddy), an informal address that Jews had not previously used in prayer. A new way of praying was born. Jesus understood better than anyone the vast difference between God and human beings. Yet He did not question the personal concern of God, who watches over sparrows and counts the hairs on our heads. He valued prayer enough to spend many hours at the task.

If I had to answer the question “Why pray?” in one sentence, it would be, because Jesus did.

When [Jesus] had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.

"Never underestimate the value of a single soul."

Many Christians have succumbed to the false notion that their witness to one individual doesn't count for much. But that certainly isn't supported by what we read in the Gospels. Even though Jesus' public ministry was limited to a little more than 3 years, He was never too busy to deal with one person at a time. It's true that Jesus preached to multitudes in Judea, fed 5,000 people gathered by the Sea of Galilee, and ministered to the large crowds in Capernaum. Yet He never lost sight of the value of one soul!

We are encouraged when we read of His conversation at night with one man named Nicodemus of His visit with one woman at a well in Samaria and of His personal interest in one man named Zacchaeus, who had climbed up into a sycamore tree to get a better look at the Lord. How thrilled he must have been when Jesus singled him out of the multitude and said, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house".

If you are ever tempted to minimize the value of your personal, individual witness to a single soul, remember Jesus' example.

There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

We may give up on each other, but it is comforting to know that God never gives up on us. His offer of forgiveness is open to us today and every day to come. Psalms is full of musical imagery. Myself being a musician, I have learned that throughout time, music has been used to express the divine. From Stryper to Creed, from Skillet to Switchfoot, 311 and more, God loves harmony and purity of tone. Together, we can become a melody of beauty and praise. By singing praise, we can become the rhythm of creation by affirming who God created us to be. Let the music of the Lord fill your heart, and get carried away in its beauty and power.

Our Lord is the source of all power and might. His wisdom is matched by none. As we fight our daily battles, it is good for us to keep in mind that the Lord is on our side and He leads the charge. There is no retreat for God. He is with us every step of the way. Trust in Him, for He is the commander who cannot fail.

While the road ahead of us may be filled with questions and concerns, we can look back and see the many ways God has acted in our behalf to get us to the places we need to be. We see his work through history and we can take assurance that his promises are true and his victory in us is assured.

Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

There's no fooling God. There is no place we can go where He does not see our every move. Those people who think they have God fooled are only fooling themselves. God sees all things, He hears all things, and nothing escapes His attention. For those who live in sin, that is a very frightening thought. For those who walk in righteousness, there is no problem. Let the Lord watch. It is good to know that He is here.

Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? He that planteth the ear, shall be not bear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?

Much like the rules parents have for young children... Don't drink what's under the cabinet, don't play in the street, don't walk behind parked cars, God's guidance is not intended to restrict us, but to protect us. His commands, both positive and negative, are for our protection and perfection. By them we find life and have it preserved.

I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.

"Spoiled like a child?"

Sometimes we can be spoiled and irritable like a brat. We don't get things the way we want them, so we pout and harden our hearts toward God. God is patient with us, but sometimes He has to put some distance between us until we settle down. God doesn't want to deal with our bratiness any more than we want to deal with the bratiness of children. In time, we learn to deal with our disappointments, and like children, we finally learn that pouting gets us nowhere.

Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness.

"Is it your right?"

We live in a time and culture of rights. "It's my right to ___." Just fill in the blank... But there is one thing we don't have a right to be: God's child. We are given that right by grace through Jesus' coming to earth, living, dying and being raised from the dead. We appropriate it through faith, through which God gives us new birth when we are baptized and reborn through the power of the Holy Spirit. To be born of God, to be born from above, to be born again is the gift of adoption into God's family and entitles us to all the rights of heirs in God's house.

To all who received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

"How important God is to us."

Missed Daily the past few mornings due to a hectic work schedule and a bit of laziness... My wife reminded me that not only do I have a commitment to those who read my posts, but to myself and God. I need a daily dose of inspiration to keep the wheels turning and thank her for that reminder... Only He is worthy to be praised, and yet we so often act as if there's nothing special about God at all. There is no life in our prayers, we decided to skip church, or we ignore opportunities to share Christ with those around us. Our actions say, "No big deal." It is a big deal. God is the biggest deal of our lives. Everything we do should exalt the Lord and show others just how important He is to us. Anytime we can experience the holiness and majesty of the Lord, we should jump at the chance.

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy.

Our Lord watches over us carefully and lovingly. He wants us to look forward to the times we spend with Him. He also wants us to be assured that He will take care of us and protect us. As a shepherd gives everything possible to protect his flock, so God gives everything He can to guard His followers. Trust in Him, and He will watch over you.

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

"The closer we cleave to the word of God."

Both as our rule and as our stay, the more assurance we have of deliverance when we do. The wicked flatter themselves that they are going to heaven; but the longer they persist in sin, the further it is from them. The requirements of morality and holiness are not temporary or fleeting because they reflect the nature of our Holy God who is eternal. They don't shift with the wishes of culture, but are true across cultures and times and wishes.

"God is our judge and our father."

When we think about God being our judge, we normally think of falling into judgment. Isaiah reminds us that God being our judge means that he will be there to judge us based on his will, his rule and his grace. He is on our side and is looking to save, not condemn. Using the New Testament idiom, when we stand before our Judge we see instead our Father.

The Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.
