fantastic
i went back to st. louis this weekend w/ a couple of buddies of mine to watch our school - Southwest Missouri State (soon to be Missouri State) - play in its conference tournament. Our first game was Saturday, against U of Northern Iowa, who beat us last year in the conference tourney final in 2OT. We got 'em in regulation this time around, possibly ending their hopes for an at-large invite to the Big Dance. In the semifinal match-up, we took on Southern Illinois, the regular season conference champion & #22 in the nation. In the first half, we were down by as many as 23. In the 2nd, one of my buddies and I decided to go get some eats. With about 17 mins left, we hadn't made much of a dent in SIU's 16 pt lead. We were thinking, if it wasn't close w/ about 10 mins to go, we were outta there. By the time we got back, tho, we were only down 8. And we kept on keepin' on. We finally went ahead for good w/ about 2 mins left, and all the SMS fans were rockin' like crazy (we were vastly outnumbered by SIU fans, who have about a 1 1/2 to 2 hr drive from Carbondale, as compared to a 3 hr drive from Springfield MO. But it was absofuckinglutely amazing. The whole drive back to Springfield here, my buddy and I were like "wow, I can't believe what we just saw.... holy shit...." And so, after classes today, we're going back to St. Louis tonight for the title game against Creighton. And if we win, that's an automatic bid to the NCAA's! Otherwise, we're most likely NIT-bound. S-M-S, Go Bears!
