songs "new band" should cover?

i was thinking what songs would be cool for them to cover? taking into account what suit Myle's voice, the music these guys are into and stuff I like I have come up with a little list.

Cohen's "Hallelujah" that appears on Jeff Buckley's Grace. There are times when listening to mf4's stuff that I almost swear Jeff didn't drown and he's still with us. That is a major compliment BTW!

Led Zeppelin "Dazed and Confused" who wouldn't want to see Mark transform into Jimmy Page?

If they are not too afraid of comparisons (vocally) then have a go at "Jesus Christ Pose" (with Stapp in video hehe) this would rock.

"All Along the Watchtower"

GNR's "Patience"

Some Creed and MF4 material such as "My Sacrifice" and "Carry On".

Hmmm, I want to hear their stuff first. :D

Mark as Jimmy Page....mmmm what a yummy image :D
I'd like to hear some of their stuff myself. I've never heard the new singer's voice.

They should do Mmmbop by Hanson, but my band already has dibbs on it. That is, after we get more than just me and the bassist... And it will be a hard-rock version.

H-D :silly:

I don't like it when well-known bands (I guess we can consider them well-known, since none o' them are newcomers) cover other well-known bands well-known songs. Especially when the cover sounds very very similar to the original. I think it'd be kinda cool if more bands took famous bands lesser-known songs, but those that are still pretty good, and covered them...

I enjoy covers most of the time. Especially when they're a real surprise at a concert. Pearl Jam has done some nice covers over the years, and they mix it up, which keeps their concerts unique and fresh. I love PJ's version of Neil Young's Fuckin' Up. It's really, really good. APC also did a cool cover of a lesser known band's song on their second album...The Nurse Who Loved Me, by Failure. It's a cool version, too.

you don't want a band to become a cover band but i think a cover here and there spices things up and keeps things fresh. And its even better for a new group such as this that will have a fairly limited number of songs availiable to them. Besides i'm sure they would put their own spin on these songs and perhaps even "own" that song.

Dogstar 04-01-2004 06:19 PM

Yeah, that's true. APC also did an Ozzy cover on their first tour, because, as they said, they only had one album of songs :D.

true dat... right off the bat, they'd get a reputation as a cover band, and that, i would think, prolly isn't that great for creating a fan-base (outside of existing fans from previous groups in which the members were involved).
but, come to think of it, i've heard some pretty good covers. PJ's Last Kiss is kinda cool... matchbox twenty did this awesome cover of cyndi lauper's Time After Time a few years ago, it was especially moving at the concert i was at because it was less than a week after 9/11/01 (i went to 2 concerts that week--m20 and Blast!, i think m20 was the one a few days after, Blast! being the 12th or 13th or so, where they played a wicked hardcore rendition of the National Anthem)... and i guess i like Creed's take on "I'm Eighteen" too

Its called Enter Sandman. Anyways it would be pretty cool for them to cover some Skynyrd or GNR. I would love to hear what Myles can do on something like Paradise City or Free Bird.
