What's your footprint?

In my Environmental Ecology class we were looking at how large of an Ecological Footprint people have (ie, how much area it takes to sustain their form of life.)

Mine is 67.4% (which is really high) and it would take 9.6 Earths to sustain everyone if everyone in the world lived like I do.

So take this quiz and find out how much of the Earth's resources you use.

dude, I smashed you: 80.3%
Food: 7.8 acres (3.2 hectares)
Transportation: 3.8 (1.5)
Housing: 3.2 (1.3)
Other: 5.5 (2.2)

hold on a sec: it says "IN COMPARISON:

Your Eco-Footprint measures 80.3 % of an average American Footprint."

so, does that mean my level is low compared to most Americans? I'll try & take it w/ exaggerated answers, see what happens.

RMadd 01-17-2005 03:37 PM

yeah... w/ the worst possible scenario, it's a rate of 617.8%, so I don't feel too bad about my score.

Torn Daredevil 01-17-2005 06:36 PM

Yikes, 173.4%

Eek

scrit 01-17-2005 07:22 PM

:wtf: :wtf: : i dont get it,

RMadd 01-17-2005 07:56 PM

goddamnit woman, to put it simply, it measures how much resources and crap you use compared to the avg American (thus, the percentage is that of your usage as compared to the average American; 100% means you're average).

DekWannaBFlea 01-17-2005 09:52 PM

71.1%

hayley 01-17-2005 11:22 PM

YOUR RESULTS:
Food Footprint 1.4 hectares or 3.5 acres
Transportation Footprint 0.9 hectares or 2.2 acres
Housing Footprint 1.2 hectares or 3 acres
Other Footprints 1.3 hectares or 3.2 acres

IN COMPARISON:

Your Eco-Footprint measures 47.4 % of an average American Footprint.

Take into account that I didn't undertand some of the questions because of your language ( ;) ) So I was just guessing

Food Intake
The average American eats approximately 3000 kilo-calories (kcal) every day (see calorie counter below). This diet is approximately equivalent to:
* eating cereal, toast, juice, and coffee for breakfast, * a sandwich, yogurt, fruit, and a beverage for lunch, * an afternoon snack, and * a dinner with main course, side, and beverage, and a snack or dessert in the evening.
Given this general description of the average American diet, and the fact that individual caloric intake will depend on age, physical activity, body type, and other factors,
How would you describe your average daily food intake?

Q7. Fuel Efficiency
How many miles per gallon does your car get?
A More than 35 miles per gallon Less than 4.8 liters per 100 km
B 35-50 miles per gallon 6.8-4.8 liters
C 25-35 miles per gallon 9.6-6.8 liters
D 15-25 miles per gallon 16-9.6 liters
E Fewer than 15 miles per gallon More than 16 liters

House Size.(I don't know how big my house is lol) The average single family house in the United States is around 2100 sq. ft. in area. How big is your home?

A 10000 sq ft or more 930 m2 or more
B 5000-10000 sq ft 470-930 m2
C 2500-5000 sq ft 230-470 m2
D 1500-2500 sq ft 140-230 m2
E 1000-1500 sq ft 100-140 m2
F 500-1000 sq ft 45-100 m2
G 500 sq ft or less 45 m2 or less

That's it though, I had to guess those ones, so it's pretty accurate though

You could use the meters. Ask you parents.
