Heavy matters... one topic!
Ok, I'd like to cut the chase - instead of opening a bunch of different topics, that would eventually get deleted or closed (not to mention ignored due to lack of knowledge), I intend to 'chat' here about heavy-heavy music here...
I haven't been here for a while, and in the past, I had my topics dissapear, so I think that this one should survive... Now, starting from KoRn, to Slipknot, Mudvayne, then Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, to Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir and Type O Negative... let the chatter begin. First of, do you listen to heavy metal, then, what are your favorite band, and so forth.. Before, only me and PaulMcCoyGirl were talking about this topic (as I can recall).... :D :smokin: |

yup. I am 30, so I go way back with Metal. I am more of a closet headbanger tho. Quote:
I still believe that Sepultura's Arise is one of the best albums of all time for me. I loved Testament. I got into other stuff like Kreator and obviously Slayer, the old Metallica, some SOD...Gawsh, I cant remember... Quote:
Also the Iron Maiden type of bands and black sabbath etc, but I dont think they are the metal U r talking about. But yeh, I have really forsaken my metal roots in the last few years. Still love stuff with heavy guitars tho, of course. |
I Like Metal stuff like Black Label Society, Metallica, Pantera/Damageplan and Dream Theater... but i also like stuff that is more "Virtuoso" Or "Shred" like Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Satch and Dream Theater Fits in there aswell... (Dream theater is more Progressive Metal)
I Like Heavy stuff... but i gotta have some Melodic stuff mixed in with it... |
I love metal, too, but also metal with melodic overtones. Some of my favorites:
Metallica Opeth Megadeth Dimmu Borgir Black Label Society Corrosion of Conformity Pantera Judas Priest |

Good, keep on going.
@Sincirr - I meant any metal actually, but since this is a Creed forum, I mentioned heavy to clarify for those who don't know... I love Sepultura too... ;) |
My fav bands gotta be...
Megadeth Metallica Pantera Black Sabbath Slayer Anthrax |

Yeh, good to see there are some more Pantera fans here. I like Pantera too. I also just LOVE Sevendust. I love 2-guitar bands that work real well together. |

I'm really Excited about Dark New Day! They feature Clint Lowery and many others but have alot of the same Guitar Feel as "The Dust" |
cool man:D

Wow, I didn't realise that this topic is dead... :(
|
You just revived it :)
|
I guess... but still, I think that this topic isnt going to do well because there aren't many 'heavy' people here.
|
Suicidal Tendencies, Motorhead, Anthrax, Napalm Death, Gwar, Dio, Megadeath, Grim Reaper...........
I'm into the old school |
Does TWISTED SISTER count? "I Wanna ROCK!"

i can't say i'm really into heavy metal. i've got all the artists you mentioned on here, but i only really listen to Sabbath... i like a couple of songs by the others, but that's aboot it.
|
normally, I don't like the REALLY heavy stuff, but, in memory of Dimebag, I'm listening to Far Beyond Driven right now...(although, my favorite song on the album is the "Planet Caravan" cover, and it's not very heavy...but, what I love about that song is that it shows that Phil can sing when he wants to...)
|
do Christian hardcore bands count? b/c i've been listening to a bunch of Demon Hunter lately.
|
I guess so, because this isn't a metal forum, so do your stuff.
I am living lately on melodic black/avantguarde metal.. From Dimmu Borgir, 'thru' Satyricon, to Opera IX and Emperor.... and on the side Type O Negative, and Symphony X (for those who don't know, it's a power-progressive metal band with clean vocals)... :D |
Ooo, I might have to check out Symphony X. I like Dimmu Borgir. I saw them at Ozzfest last year. They were great live. They did a little too much growling for my liking, but the music is killer.
|
That's actually screaming (since it's black metal). I saw this summer SX and they were a lot of fun!! Also, they are technically very good, so that's good for a change... ;)
'The Insight And The Catharsis' ;) |
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
LoL so funny all the new terms! Avante guarde metal, etc. Theres sooo many sub-genres in this new generation of metal coming out.
|
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
Yes, there is a bunch of phrases/expressions... :D
For example... Children Of Bodom - progressive/thrash with black vocals... :D |
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
they cant just be progressive thrash? U have to include with black vocals? sheesh! My brain is hurting, LOL

Children of Bodom kicks much ass I haven't seen anyone mention these yet though In Flames All That Remains Heaven Shall Burn anyone like these guys or am I just out of touch here ?? |
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
You are not out of place, but the only one I listen to from the 3 is In Flames....
|
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
I am more melodic metal. Dream Theater and old school MEgadeth are about as heavy as I get. The rest just sounds like noise to my ears.
|
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
Soulfly, Trivium, Morbid Angel, Metallica(oldstuff) is probably the heaviest I listen to.
|
Re: Heavy matters... one topic!
Anybody like Acid Bath? I'm just getting into them and they have the scream/growl thing going mixed with singing. I like their guitar work.
