best code of football

okay which code is the best?
football (soccer)
american football
rugby (union or league specify)
australian football
gaelic football

the right answer of course is aussie football! ;) there is no padding and dudes can legally jump on a guy's head and take a mark (a catch).

hayley 04-11-2005 10:03 PM

Hey! Where's the New Zealand rugby option? Now THAT is the toughest sport, mmm those guys wooooo

Well my fote went to League

league? i thought the kiwis loved union more!
union is better cause they do that thing where they pick the dudes up from the sideline throw-in and they have the scrums instead of the dodgy 6 tackle rule. my footy team is sucking this year! :( they've made the finals for the past 7 years (making them the most consistent team over that period) but they only beat the worst team on sunday by 2 points! its a disgrace that AFL hasen't taken off around the world. i reckon if it was a U.S sport it would have taken off.

who has seen a game of aussie rules?

creedsister 04-11-2005 10:22 PM

Wow

Uh Oh You Lost Me Here...Clueless i did,nt vote ...They are all after a ball Bottom Light Right...Keep Your eye on it and you will never miss it Play Hard And God Bless, :D

Do you mean like Super 12? Because if so, yes us kiwi's live off supporting our town! :D Hahaha. League is great though, much more faster than rugby, I like it. Haven't watched a game in ages though.

um, i voted for soccer (football to the rest of the world). american football is kinda for pansies. you run your ass off for 5 seconds, maybe 10 secs, 15 absolute (and very rarely) tops. then you rest a good 40 secs. and canadians prolly think they're all a bunch of billy-bad-asses b/c their field is 10 yards longer. soccer, they run 90 minutes straight, it's a game of strategy. i've never seen a rugby match, but i imagine it's pretty intense. and i don't know the difference between australian rules football & gaelic football, but those are prolly pretty ballsy, too.
and, hayley, since he didn't mention NZ rugby, you coulda selected "other". just a thought lol.

fluttergirl 04-12-2005 01:34 AM

ryan good job, soccer kicks ass.

yes it do. i played all the way from kindergarten to freshman year of high school. and even tho i played w/ some real pricks in HS, it was still a good time. definitely excellent exercise, best shape of my life during season.

RMadd 04-12-2005 01:45 AM

Amber, you had me trippin' there for a sec... people usually refer to me as BearFan (my old name on here), Bear (obviously a derivative of my old name), or RMadd. I had to think for a sec: "wait... she's talking to me! lol"

soccer is easily the most skillful of the codes but i'ld say for entertainment purposes its not as good....mainly cause of the prevelance of nil all draws. watching grown men roll over and fake injuries to get free kicks and penalties also is a little pathetic. playing a code of football where you can't use your arms is incredibly skillful.

both codes of rugby (union and league) are certainly intense, its basically americna football without the padding. the basic difference between union and league is that after 6 tackles (bring the dude to the ground) in league the other team gets the ball whereas union doesn't have that. aussie and gaelic football is quite similar except the gaelic players use a soccer ball, whilst aussie football uses what looks like a rugby ball that is longer and flatter. as far as i know there is no such thing as NZ rugby.....i think she's referring to league. :)

Anna1011 04-12-2005 10:20 AM

rugby union all the way, bin a huge fan since i was 4 and was going to join my local team couple of years back but fucked up my knee and cant play

RMadd 04-12-2005 03:57 PM

man, i don't think there's a "smilie" on here for "that's way over my head". i can distinguish between american football, soccer, and rugby (i know what it looks like), but keeping all the different codes of rugby or football or whatever the hell you're exactly talking about lol..... that's something else

fluttergirl 04-12-2005 04:00 PM

you know the crazed american football fanatic who's overweight and lives by the television in constant supply of bear, and just exists the rest of the year?
the way they watch the game? and get involved?
thats me.
minus, you know, the beer, etc.

RMadd 04-12-2005 04:15 PM

i'm more of a baseball fan, myself. see, growing up in Cardinals Nation, I was too young to remember the Big Red (St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL) - they moved away when i was 4 - and the Rams didn't arrive 'til '95, when I'd already been a baseball Cards fan for about 5 years. and it didn't help that the Rams sucked their first 4 seasons here, so I continued to follow the 49ers, who had been my favorite team up until then (first Joe Mantana & Jerry Rice, then Steve Young & Jerry Rice).... i guess winning the Super Bowl was nice, but expansion & relocation are pretty much the devil, destroying die-hard alliances to teams & franchises. imo, the only true baseball fans are those of teams that were around before, say, 1960. Giants, Yankees, Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, Indians, Dodgers, Red Sox, etc. All the fans of other teams are terribly fair-weather, it's pathetic.

uncertaindrumer 04-12-2005 06:20 PM

American football, at least for WATCHING purposes. I really cannot think of anything more boring, anything I'd LESS want to do,than watch soccer. They run this way, that way, every way, and no one ever scores.

Fun.

In terms of playing, I would also have to say American football. I don't get the whole "american football is for pansies" thing. Is basketball for pansies cuz guys don't try to kill each other? You should rank a sport on how fun it is, not on how many broken bones guys get...

So,you definitely don't understand soccer(football for the rest of the world)...'cause this is one of the most exciting, perfect, complete and we can also say, democratic sport...

or maybe there's another reason:

you really don't know the wonderful feeling of being a world's champion

honestly, soccer's kinda weird here. if i'm not mistaken, it's the most-played organized sport for kids, even higher than baseball or basketball. but there's just not the following at the professional or int'l level prolly b/c it hasn't been that well established at those levels. i guarantee the vast vast vast majority of americans don't know that the us just moved into fifa's top 10 recently for the first time in the nation's history. pretty impressive, but it just didn't receive that much attention in the media. in the summer, it's baseball; fall & early winter is football; by the time the NFL is done, college basketball is getting good; then baseball's back on. that's, unfortunately, how it works. i'd love to see soccer get the respect here it deserves & receives everywhere else in the world, but that likely won't happen until mexicans overtake caucasians as the greatest percantage in the next hundred years lol.

fluttergirl 04-13-2005 01:11 AM

i HATE the wonderfully condescending air people from other countries get towards americans about soccer.
one, the only people youll insult are the only americans that share an interest with you. the rest who dont like/care about soccer dont like/care about your opinion.
and two, so what? one's interest in a sport shouldnt be determined by some men/women who they never have and never will meet's performance. just because the US mens team doesnt dominate the world, doesnt mean i enjoy it any less. doesnt mean someone living next door to ronaldo even plays.
i dont understand the correlation.
Ana, dont take it personally, it was your post that made me say this, but it isnt directed at you, its an attitude ive gotten in other places, im just venting here, lol.

damnit, we're proud to suck lol
but, seriously, the tables might be turned in a few years. we got some good young players in Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley and Freddy flippin' Adu. Freddy's fucking amazing. playing pro at 14 i think.

I love football (american style) the most when there is a cinderella story involved. Like this year, with the Pittsburgh steelers (my home team). Rookie QB fresh out of college makes it closer to the superbowl than anyone has gotten them for the longest time, makes cowher beat his record for undefeated streak, and all that good stuff. I also like seeing Bettis pounding the ball up the middle, getting 150 yard games almost every time. I love seeing Troy Polamalu (the safety) come out of nowhere and desicrate a wide reciever or running back, or getting an interception when, a half a second earlier he was at the other side of the field (hes a magic man). I love seeing james farrior beat up running backs and quarterbacks, it makes me happy as i sit there drinking a refreshing Miller Lite. American football is what i voted for!

Oh, and by the way, then i love arguing with the traitors, not mentioning any names **Cough**Kerri**cough cough** who live in pennsylvania, but like the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS!!!! New Englands getting their beating handed to them next year, oh yes, oooohhhhh yes! lol ;)

Dani 04-13-2005 04:41 AM

Rugby Union. There is an American Rugby side that competed at the last World Cup, and the USA are the raining olympic gold medalists for Rugby when it was last held at the games (1924) There's some useless information for ya :)

League is okay but it doesn't come close to real Rugby. I love Soccer as well.

Just to clarify...
First of all, I really love soccer/or football , even though i like basketball and volleyball a lot of...and i think every kind sports is GOOD, even if you play it or just watch it ...

And second one, I was just KIDDING with Uncertaindrumer, and I know he's going to understand (I hope so- lol) that joke, I didn't say any bad word to disrespect or insulting americans, sorry, but it was not my intention, no way... :(
In my opinion, (what is different from uncertain's opinion) soccer isn't boring, and believe me I was just defending my point of view...and of course making a joke ...

anyway, sorry ...

PS: I think sport is not to dominate the world but to unite it!!!!!!! OK???? ;)

aussiecreeder 04-13-2005 08:24 PM

soccer is similar here, in that no sport is played more at the junior level but none of the t.v stations want to touch it.

fluttergirl 04-13-2005 09:52 PM

i know you were kidding, thats why it wasnt aimed at you.

RMadd 04-17-2005 04:56 AM

i guess tv can't stand having 90+ minutes of programming w/o any commercials (except for "the next 15 minutes of this match brought to you by ____"). plus, americans tend to prefer gore over wits & strategy. that's why we watch NASCAR instead of World Chess Championships

fluttergirl 04-17-2005 09:47 AM

Believe me, here, soccer makes a lot of money and the tv just thanks for it... ;)

aussiecreeder 04-18-2005 08:16 PM

[email protected] tonne of cars just going round in a circle! ;) if you're going to get into cars forget nascar, forget V8 supercars, forget even CART racing. F1 is where its at..........

RMadd 04-18-2005 09:06 PM

i like nascar and open-wheen racing (on road courses.... open-wheel on ovals is somehow significantly less exciting than NASCAR, maybe b/c they got like 10 less cars in the field in IRL/CART)
