How did you come to like Creed?

I've never seen a thread for this so thought I'd start one up.

How did all of you come to like/love CREED?

For me, this is how it happened.

I was sitting at home one day when there was no school, watching VH1 like always and this video came on. It was called "What If" by this band CREED that I had never heard of. I watched it and was completly captivated. "This song rocks!" I said. The next day I was talking to my friend John, who said he'd heard some of their music and really enjoyed it. He told me of this other song they had called Higher, and long story short, it became my favorite song. About 2 days later I was able to go and by their album Human Clay. I listened to it almost non-stop and within a day or two memorized every word of every song. About two or three days later, WAWO was released as a single.

I was in 10th grade in High School then, now I am a college freshman. Throughout that whole time, Creed has been my favorite band and I've acquired MOP, Maximum Creed, Weathered, and other stuff I've bought off of E-Bay. The only other thing I want and have been searching for is the coveted Blue Collar Records release of My Own Prison.

Hehe, these threads pop up every couple months. I made one when I joined. :D

Well mine is very similar to yours. I heard this song on the Top 40 station called "Higher" it was a pretty awesome song. I liked it, so I recorded it on my cassette tape to listen to. About a week later WAWO came out. From the first note, to the solo, to the lyrics of this song, I was hooked. For Christmas I got Human Clay, and got Weathered soon thereafter (when it was released). I later borrowed MOP from a friend, and realized that I had heard My Own Prison and Torn on the radio before. (When I got Human Clay, I realized I had heard What If too) but didnt know it was them. Needless to say I am a big fan. I missed their Human Clay tour, and missed their show here in Dallas (by $5). I plan to be first in line when the come here again.

yeah this thread comes about sometimes but we are willing to tell...

What made me like Creed was back in early '98 and when I heard My Own Prison on a local alternative station..

Siana 04-22-2003 07:03 PM

the first creed song i have heard was Higher...i loved Scotty's voice...so rich and deep..then i listened to HC..and i was already a huge Creed fan

Agent D 04-22-2003 07:35 PM

I heard my friends talking about this band called Creed. I had never heard of them before. I wasn't really into modern music but then one Saturday morning I saw the video for "My Sacrifice." Wow. I was floored. The guitars were just so heavy and yet uplifting. I had never heard a voice like Scott's before. And Flip's beats were terrific. Plus, I was amazed at the visual concepts in the video. I fell in love with the song and soon bought Weathered. I immediately snagged copies of MOP and HC. And the rest is history.;)

Sheila63 04-22-2003 07:59 PM

Mine is a similar story. I heard Creed on the radio for the first time in the first few months of 2002. Higher was playing on the radio and between Scott's voice, the lyrics and the music I knew I had to find out who this was that I just heard, it was the best music I'd heard in a long time.:dancing: I've been a fan ever since and always will be!:jam: :crest: :crest:

I borrowed my brothers MOP cd and then after that I was hooked! I totally related to the lyrics and I love Scott's voice. Plus it has a very positive message;)

JenRN 04-22-2003 10:55 PM

Back in 1997 I first heard Creed driving through Pittsburgh, I was blown away and immediatley went to the nearest store to by the Cd and it was not even out yet! I have been hooked ever since, a REAL junkie!:P

TeriB19 04-22-2003 11:33 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I was pregnant in 1999 when I first heard WAWO on a soap opera and I was hooked. That song meant so much to me because of the life I was carrying inside my body. (by the way, the little monster in my avatar was inside my belly when I first heard WAWO). Meet Amanda, she's 3.

I heard Higher, then WAWO and loved them, went to the concert on the HC tour in Oct. of 2000, had a good time, then I heard MS and I was FLOORED, rockin' song, and I had my brother burn it for me, then when I heard OLB, I had to have the entire Weathered CD, so I bought it, listened from beginning to end and went to the show on 9-22-02 and after that I was HOOKED. I went the next day and bought HC and MOP and listened non stop, after hearing the other songs on the CD's I realized I had heard the other songs before, but were unaware of who it was at the time and the fact that I always lived in Arkansas where they radio sucks and they never hardly ever played anything good. I have been hooked ever since. I have everything I can possibly get my hands on Creed wise and I will support them all the way.

The Lithium 04-23-2003 01:12 PM

Have you a membership on CreedINK? I have....I'm platunum.

marlsy 04-23-2003 01:31 PM

well my husband used to work out to Human Clay everyday so I heard it, but never really listened to the lyrics until my husband told me to listen to Higher and I was floored by the lyrics!!! His voice was so deep and sexy, the type of rock was so awsome!! I was hooked ever since, couldn't get enough of them, and still can't!! The lyrics of the songs get to me the most!! Not to mention I am a rocknroll girl so the music was already awsome in my book, but the lyrics, WOW is all I can say!!

The Lithium 04-23-2003 01:37 PM

Yeah, the lyrics is REALY good, but do you have a membership in CreedINK....As I told you before, I'm a platunum!

Chris98GT 04-24-2003 01:19 AM

Heard something from MOP on the radio way back in the day.... didn't care for it.... somehow listened to Human Clay when it came out, thought it rocked so I bought it. Then in '99 I went with the g/f to a concert promoting Human Clay, got hooked, and the rest is history.

hide_tremonti 04-24-2003 01:54 AM

I heard the chugging in "Higher" and thought that Tremonti's tone rocked.

hotforscott 04-24-2003 07:55 AM

I absolutely love them. Yes, I have a Platinum Creedink Membership.

Bridge of Clay 04-24-2003 12:27 PM

basically, in a short post, it was when I listened to Higher the first time: Stapp´s voice, Mark´s tone, that intro from Flip and the lyrics!

Wadrick 04-24-2003 12:50 PM

the first Creed song that I heard was Higher. I heard it on the radio, and was thike, these guys are awesome!! My friend has the CD and we listened to it every day, while we worked that summer. I started to play the guitar, and I learned a lot of their songs, and al that.

But what makes me like them now, is that they have very positive messages in like all of their songs, and they have helped me through tough times in my life, and they give me a sense of rejouvination, and they make me stronger, and they let me know who I am am and why I am here, and more importantly, Waht's this Life For.

Other then that they suck ;) ;) ;)

I had been listening to the band The Doors thru a very tough time in my life. I had spiritually connected with their music and the lyrics. It had a quality that reached me deep inside. I had purchased all their CD's and then Creed came out. Somehow The Doors seemed to lead me directly into the music of Creed. There was something that connected the two. The voices of the lead singers Jim Morrison and Scott Stapp were somehow similar.

After I had started purchasing the music of Creed and had found I loved their music, I heard that Scott Stapp too had some sort of connection to the music of The Doors. I have never heard just what that unusual connection is, but I would really like to find out some day. He sang with the remaining members of The Doors, and I was able to see it on TV. I'm not sure what it was, there was just something about that performance that struck a note in me. Maybe some day I'll find out the answer.

Tremontichik006 04-24-2003 09:23 PM

i think i was in 4th or 5th grade when m.o.p. came out. so one day my dad was driving me somewhere and creed came on and may dad said "this band rocks" and so we were listening to m.o.p. and i really liked it too. but back then i was into all of that nsync and backstreet boy stuff so really didnt care to much for rock then. but then once i heard higher i was turned on to creed and became addicted! :D so i really have my dad to thank for it!

farmgirl 04-30-2003 12:51 PM

Hi All!

My hubby actually introduced me to Creed. (Not literally, OMG!!! I wish!) We were at Best Buy and he bought Human Clay as soon as it came out. I said, Who is that by, and he said Creed, they're really good! So we listened to it on the way home (hour drive) and I was hooked. I found out they had a prior release and went out and got MOP immediately. I haven't stopped listening to Creed since and love their music so much.

I never did give hubby the cd back. They're mine, all mine!!! LOL
If he is good, he can borrow them, no wait, he can get another copy for himself.;)

It was the same day that Brazil beat Turkey in the World Cup last year (towards the end of June) and i had been playing snooker with my mate before going to watch the game. We were driving back into town in his car and he decided to put some music on and he put Weathered. He skipped to track 6 (My Sacrifice) and i told him it was possibly one of one best songs i had ever heard. He then played track 5 (One Last Breath) and i was once again blown away (at the time i thought OLB was better but now My Sacrifice is my fave). I then decided to invest in the album and loved it so much i went out and bought the others.

I will always be grateful to my friend for that day.

Cheers

Wadrick 05-05-2003 10:18 AM

yeah, afer I heard higher, i got into creed through my friends, because i was not allowed to buy any other their CDs at my house. my parents don't like them, but they would love them to death, if they knew the good that creed has done for me.

creedgirl111 05-06-2003 11:20 AM

I was watching WWE one day and they were playing the theme song for the new PPV. I heard the song and was just like, "Wow..." Then they said the song was called My Sacrifice from some band that I'd never heard of called Creed. That weekend I went out and bought the CD and I've been a huge Creed fan ever since. I find it kind of scary thinking I had never heard of Creed before My Sacrifice. **shudders**

facelessman 05-10-2003 01:47 AM

this is a unique story.
one day my older brother brought home a cd from some band. at that time i didnt like rock music. he was like this is creed. i was like who is that? so one day while he was giving me a ride home from school, he put the cd in. the cd was human clay. the track was 4- say i. thats when i was floored. ive never heard such an awesome guitar. most people fall in love with creed because of the lyrics. i love the lyrics too, but what i love most of all are the guitar parts. they are so good, second to none. the only guitar parts that rival are other creed songs. mark tremonti is the best guitarist in rock. the mixture of the heartful lyrics and the hard riffs is so unique. no other band can do that except for the greatest band out there, CREED.

Sheila63 05-10-2003 02:47 PM

I agree with you, facelessman, Mark is an awesome guitar player!! Combine that with the lyrics and you have fantastic music!!:tremonti: :jam:
