Led Zeppelin vs. The Who

alright, this is pretty straightforward, inspired by a couple "votes" for the latter band in the LZ/Beatles poll thread. who's better?

RMadd 02-14-2005 01:54 AM

For my vote, give me Led Zeppelin any day!

aussiecreeder 02-14-2005 02:16 AM

This is a bit tougher than zep and the beatles but zep still comes out on top. the who were brillant though as eddie vedder saids "pete you're still the best". :)

fluttergirl 02-14-2005 05:17 PM

this one actually made me think
for like
two seconds
now, keeping mind the who are pretty damn cool, and pretty damned good, LZ owns just about everybody out there.

TeriB19 02-14-2005 06:37 PM

I'm probably the only person on the board who'll vote for The Who. Just grew up with them, listened to them much more than I did Zeppelin, so I've gotta go with Pete, Keith, Roger and John.

aussiecreeder 02-14-2005 06:52 PM

keith was just a crazy drummer hit those skins at a furious pace and he lived just as fast standing up. they're bringing out a new studio album.... :)

Alter Shredder 02-14-2005 11:39 PM

The Who....hell yeah...it was a very tough one...but yeah.

SmilinSkullRing 02-23-2005 11:45 PM

The Who without a thought. Better lyrics, better drummer, better singer, better bassist, and, yes, better guitarist imo. I take nothing away from LZ though. I love Zep. I was listening to III and II a lot last week. Still, The Who I love.

I'll agree on lyrics and bassist, but dayum, I have to go with Plant on vocals, just by how his voice touched me. I don't know, he just does it for me more than Daltrey ever did. Guitarist is hard to pick, I admit, and I'd say they are pretty close. Zep's music just made me feel more than The Who's, but they are both kick-ass bands. I still love Zep more, though :D

Yeah, I mean Zep are great. But sometimes Plant's voice can get annoying. For example, in a live setting. Pete just speaks to me more with his lyrics and his guitar work/ability. They really get to me.

aussiecreeder 02-24-2005 06:28 AM

I think Plant is certainly a more influential vocalist although sometimes he can be annoying. Page is easily better than Townsend although Pete is a legend and he is hugely influential.

SmilinSkullRing 02-24-2005 04:40 PM

Page might be more influential but that doesn't mean a thing. Roger is just as good from a different perspective.

Page actually isn't easily better than Townshend.

I'm sure you know I meant to type Plant the first time and not Page. :o

Plant sings like a girl while being a man, so yeah, he's got more range. lol Townshend was probably the second biggest influence on Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing after Eric Clapton. Doesn't make him better than Page, but I thought I would throw that out there. ;) Townshend I think knows how to build up what he's doing more. Page is great, but I'll take Townshend anyday. He's got rhythm playing that can take on leading playing like no one else.

uncertaindrumer 03-18-2005 06:06 PM

Definitely Zeppelin. Better Guitarist, best drummer of possibly EVER, better singer, and like I always say:

Who cares about the bass anyway?
