NEW BAND NAME -- Alter Bridge

New Band Name announced here

Posted by Flip's mother at FlipOnline's BB.

I just talked to Scott P. tonight and he told me that they finally have a name for the new band--ALTER BRIDGE. It's a bridge in Detroit (I think) that connects one side of town with the other. They have all (15) of the drum tracks down and are working on the guitar, bass, and vocals for 3 songs to consider for the first single and video. Scott is really pleased with his drum tracks and said that things in Atlanta were going very well. Listen for them this summer to start doing publicity at various radio stations around the country. I can't wait to hear the finished sound. If it's half as good as what I heard at rehearsal it'll be super!

Personally for me, it'll take a bit of getting used to...but I like it.

I don't get it. If this is all hush-hush then why did Flip's mom tell what the band name is? I think Wind-Up should have told her to not tell anyone. But the name sounds kind of cool.

She probably wasn't quite as "in the loop" as much as Michael and all the people working at it. I mean, I'd tell my mom my band name. Wouldn't you?

Anyways, I was expecting something better. Or, cooler, maybe. But, now we know. It's awesome to finally hear.

The owners of that BB have confimed it, and have interacted with Mrs. Phillips off the board as well. When the name first showed up, they went about finding out if it was really her or someone with a made-up name, and it is infact Mrs. Phillips.

Anything past that, e-mail the owners of that Board. I'm just passing the info along.

Trees of Wisdom 04-23-2004 12:03 AM

We should get an announcement tomorrow. The band name was barely leaked a while ago. Remember guys, when the Creedpit girls told us about what Mark had to say in the meet and greet, that same day Wind-Up gave an official release. It's a little too late to give a release today, but tomorrow I assume is when Wind-Up will announce it.

I'd like that too...but dude that's a lot of faith in Wind-Up LOL.

And the news from the M&G was posted Sunday, release Monday. I just don't see WU putting it together in time..but who knows...maybe they'll be on the ball about something for once.

Just a note, Wind-up Records has the domain name alterbridge.com reserved:

http://www.betterwhois.com/bwhois.cg...lterbridge.com

It was reserved March 2nd.

Must be true :D

Oh, so then my logic makes more sense now that the meet and greet talk happened a day before. PRESS RELEASE TOMORROW!

Very cool Steve...I didn't even think to check that out! LOL.

Guess they did want to wait to make sure they could get the domain first...not have to do "Alterbridgenet.com" LOL

Steve 04-23-2004 12:15 AM

Hrmm... there's not many words that rhyme with Alter or Bridge that sound good when put together with alterbridge... guess my fan site naming scheme of having rhyming words won't work anymore :(

Oh, and BTW, alterbridge.net was registered by Dan Tremonti on April 14th...

I'm sure they have. It'll probably be up the same day the release comes out.

Hey Steve -- Just thought of one. How about "Chill out in the Bridge Fridge"?

Yeah, ok. That's dumb. Nevermind.

facelessman 04-23-2004 01:24 AM

alter bridge, huh. its goin to take a while to get use to, but sounds good.

tremontirocks! 04-23-2004 01:27 AM

hmmmmmmmmmm its an alrite name.....but y did they name their band afta a bridge  Its juz a bit weird thats all...

Trees of Wisdom 04-23-2004 01:34 AM

Alter Bridge is better than most band names out there. Audioslave isn't that original of a name. Linkin Park sounds retarded. Hoobastank, huh? Alter Bridge is as original as Submersed. :D

It's funny that they decided to change their name and to lowercase the letter D in their name. They probably didn't want to be labeled in the nu-metal category. SubmurseD sounds and looks nu-metalish to me. :D

Steve 04-23-2004 01:37 AM

Actually Hoobastank is fairly original...

I don't like that name too much. Sounds kind of dumb. Alter Bridge sounds cool. I'm probably saying this because it's the name of Mark's new band. :D

facelessman 04-23-2004 01:53 AM

if i remember correctly, hoobastank is the middle name of one of the members. sounds original to me. if you dont like it, it doesnt change the fact.

That's one weird middle name.

Trees of Wisdom 04-23-2004 01:54 AM

And I never said Hoobastank was an unoriginal name.

facelessman 04-23-2004 02:19 AM

my bad

hayley 04-23-2004 02:34 AM

:wow: WOW, AWESOME STUFF!! Well, the fact that we finally have the name is awesome, but Alter Bridge will take some getting used to, I think I like it though. If you say it out loud, Alter Bridge, it sounds really, really nice.

Thanks for posting that, it's very much appreciated, I keep on saying the name over and over again now

Echelon122 04-23-2004 02:47 AM

Here's what a Michigan gal said about Alter Bridge (The actual bridge LOL)...just for some background on it....I dunno it helped make sense to me.

Quote:

From Shelly (StappsBabe)
Alter Bridge is indeed a bridge ...it sits on Alter Road....(That runs the length from Grosse Pointe to Detroit) and connects Grosse Pointe to Detroit.

I used to hang out in a park near the Alter Bridge...it was a place where all the "stoners" in Grosse Pointe would hang out after the bars closed.

I lived in Harper Woods then (which is about 10 min. from there) and half of my friends lived in one of the Grosse Pointe's. (there's Grosse Pointe Shores, G.P. Farms, and just plain ol' Grosse Pointe)

I think it's a great band name and awesome because only the local area would know about it otherwise. No one but the VERY local people even call it the Alter Bridge that I'm aware of and because it runs from the "rich" side of town (the Grosse Pointes) to the "poor" side of town (Detroit), it has significant meaning. It's so odd to drive down Alter road in the G.P's and see all the HUGE mansion-type houses with expensive cars in their driveways and then before you know it, ONE street over, you are faced with the harsh realities of the poor...run-down houses, unmanicured lawns and crime. VERY interesting choice for a band name IMO.

Trees of Wisdom 04-23-2004 02:50 AM

I wonder if that's why they chose that name.

Dogstar 04-23-2004 03:30 AM

Wow, very cool. I like the name a lot. Thanks for the info, Echelon.

hayley 04-23-2004 04:41 AM

That's pretty cool, it's great to have a significant meaning to a band name

aussiecreeder 04-23-2004 06:22 AM

wow it is differnent from what i expected (not really sure what i expected actually:)) but it does have quite a bit of meaning to it. it is a cool name when you say it out loud. i could get used to it and good work Steve! :)

Tremonticized1 04-23-2004 06:43 AM

Alter Road is the border of Grosse Pointe Park (where Mark grew up) and Detroit. I think it's a cool name especially since I'm from the Grosse Pointe area.

ah so Mark was a rich boy? :D

Tremonticized1 04-23-2004 06:55 AM

Well, I would say they probably weren't hurting for money. But the real money, huge mansions, etc. is in Grosse Pointe. They sub divided Grosse Pointe up and there is the Village of, City of, GP Shores, GP Farms & GP Park.

thanks for the info it sounds like Grosse Pointe is a very large place if it was divided in so many smaller areas. so is there a rivalry between Grosse Pointe and Greater Detroit? rich boys verses the poorer underclass?

Tremonticized1 04-23-2004 08:00 AM

I'm sure there is, but I'm closer to GP Shores which is the northern most part. I know there was rivalry between the city I grew up (Roseville) and St. Clair Shores (which is between Roseville & GPS). Roseville is the poorest of the 3.
