SARS in China - all public venues closed

Just saw on the news that China has made all public venues closed until further notice because of over 4000 cases of SARS. This is very scary.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - a highly contagious disease that has caused 4649 cases and 276 deaths world wide. It has hit China and Toronto very hard for some reason.

ok...

How did it china ??

TeriB19 04-26-2003 11:30 PM

It supposedly began in a hotel in China and they said many of the people who had rooms on this particular floor had probably caught it and in travelling they spread the disease. But China covered up the actual number of cases it had. By thousands! And now for some reason, Toronto has been inundated with cases. Very very scary!

I heard on ABC World News Tonight that some cruise lines are not allowing people from Toronto to go on their cruises, to prevent the possible contamination of their ships.

World Health Organization put Toronto in the "Donīt travel to" list.

Actually, I think it began in Taiwan

Oh, God, a woman I work with is going to Toronto this week! I hope she doesn't catch it!

GeeK_2004 04-26-2003 11:42 PM

does she know about SARS in china ??

Dogstar 04-26-2003 11:43 PM

She needs to know about SARS in Toronto. Yes, where I work (a newspaper) everybody knows it.

Dogstar 04-26-2003 11:46 PM

That's for sure, Julie. I really hope she decides not to go. This is getting a little too scary.

Bridge of Clay 04-26-2003 11:46 PM
