With Arms Wide Open Project. Please help if you are able.

I found this on the WAWOF site. I am going to send some items to help out.

Help Needed with Back-to-School Preparation! (???)

Although many children have just begun their summer vacations, we are kicking off our back-to-school drive to collect items impoverished children will need when schools open up again in the fall.
Many children attend schools with no supplies and wearing the same clothes day after day. By providing them with basic items such as backpacks, paper, pens, portable dictionaries, rulers, etc., we can increase their chances of having a successful year. Imagine how difficult it must be to explain to a teacher, not that your dog ate your homework, but that you couldn't do your homework because your parents can't afford to buy your paper and pens.

If you want to help, please send the following to the Foundation at 525 East College Ave., Tallahassee, FL 32301:

packs of white lined paper
construction paper
pens
pencils
markers
highlighters
pencil cases
crayons
school glue
glue sticks
rulers
binders
folders
portable dictionaries
small calculators
compasses
backpacks
hairbrushes
toothbrushes and toothpaste
umbrellas and raincoats
clothing of all children's sizes, beginning with size 5 on up, including socks and underwear, jackets and winter coats.
gift cards--if you want to send these, we will take some of the children or have referring agencies take some of the children and purchase items needed.
Any other school-related items you want to send.
We will make certain your items reach the hands of children in need! THANK YOU for your assistance!!!

Thanks for posting this, Carrie. I'm going to send some supplies too. I used to love getting new supplies for school when I was a kid.

it's amazing that these things that cost so little, will mean so much to a child, i am a single mother of 2, but a few more school supplies in my shopping cart at wal mart wont matter a bit ..... if it raises a childs self esteem just a little, it will be worth a million ...

to the band .... when will we hear, ( see), more ????????

K-mart has their 70pg notebooks, spiral ones for 13 cents, limit 20. I got those, and then I bought several packs of pencils, I bought a backpack, and some outfitts on sale for only 3.00 each, short and shirt sets, about 5 for a 10 year old girl. They are really cute, and then I went by my children's dentist and they gave me about 40 packs of Children's Crest toothpaste. They are mini tubes, but still, it all helps. I am about to ship it this afternoon.
Thanks for helping you guys. I know they will love it.

I loved getting new school supplies, too, but it was the going back to school part that sucked. I just wanted the new stuff, and have it end there. :D

I'll try to send some stuff, though.

I know what you mean H-D. I loved getting them, too. I liked school, only to socialize, I didn't like getting up early, but I always had fun with my friends.
That's great that you are going to try to send some stuff, too. I know they will appreciate it.

Wow, Carrie!! You found some great bargins.:) That's great!! It will be fun to shop for some of this stuff especially since I don't have any children or young nieces/nephews to shop for anymore.

hotforscott 07-18-2003 07:32 PM

Yeah, I did find some deals. I am glad I was able to send some stuff. I didn't even think about the dentist thing until Daniel mentioned for me to stop by there and ask since we are friends with him. I thought it was sweet of them to do that.

JulieCitySlicker 07-18-2003 07:57 PM

If I had the money I would send some stuff:( but I am extremely broke:crying: :embarass:

Sheila63 07-18-2003 08:28 PM

I understand, Julie, I need to check my finances too. I might have to wait until my next paycheck before I send some things to them.

JulieCitySlicker 07-18-2003 08:29 PM

I hope I get a job soon:(
