christian rock?
i know the topic is a little sensitive around these parts but i figured there would be some who enjoy some christian artists and particulary christian rock. the best for me easily is third day (both musically and lyrically), jars of clay are preddy good and i must admit i did like dc talk back in the day! :D
|
Oooh, this will be an interesting topic.
To be honest, I don't know many christian rock bands. I hardly know any. |
Quote:
yeah this topic should be an interestering one. there are many bands who i guess are pseudo-christian bands such as 12 Stones, P.O.D, Lifehouse and of course Creed. |
oooh i love christian rock. Ill give a list of what I like and what they are similar to or their styles
Pillar-Linkin Park, chevelle, 12 Stones Thousand Foot Krutch-like Pillar Disciple-harder rock, kinda like a slipknot i guess Eternal Decision-mistaken for metallica Demon Hunter-hard rock-slipknot, korn 12 Stones-self explanatory P.O.D.-"" Blindside-another hard rock band-Cold, Breaking Benjamin East West-like Blindside Kutless-kinda creedish, 12 stonesish the Swift-piano rock (kinda punkish) Switchfoot, good light/alt. rock DC talk-alt rock with some rap mixed in Newsboys-rock Audio Adrenaline-alt rock Pax 217 rap rock Relient K, MXPX-christian punk Apologetics-christian form of Weird Al if you want to see more bands go to christianrock.net it gives you rock and hard rock and hip-hop options. |
Love 12 Stones! I didn't know Chevelle was listed as a Christian rock band, but I love them, too!
|
I know I keep promoting this band over and over again here, but Spirit Creek - www.spiritcreek.com - is a great Christian artist.
|
many good bands mentioned but i guess i'm the first to mention Skillet. i love them. there one of my favorites as far as christian rock bands go.

are you on their payroll by any chance? ;) i didn't listen to their lyrics obviously because i didn't figure they were a christian artist but the music was cool. give them more of a listen..... the major problem with christian rock is that musically they are too derivative of what is popular in the mainstream. hey the kids are liking this style at the moment so we'll do the same a year later and that way we can give them the word in a "cool" way. this is why IMO third day are a cut above the rest. they don't care about trends and they have gone from alternative grungy stuff ie:alien to more acoustic stuff and everything inbetween and of course some alternative country. lyrically they are not afraid to be up front and very positive and they are not ambigious. you know they are a christian artist straight away. |
I Love SwitchFoot And Third Day And Spirtcreek But i dont think its sentsitve As it use to be if anything I think Its going kinda mainstream :jam: :jam: :jam: ROCK ON As a matter of fact i think a lot artists and bands of today Is Getting More InTouch with their spirtual side!!! And that really does,nt make it christian Rock either
|
I love Christian rock. I can often be found listening to Air1 radio.
Some of my fave artists are: Seventh Day Slumber (very great band) Kutless Switchfoot Big Dismal DC Talk Newsboys Audio Adrenaline Reliant K Cadaemon's Call Third Day Falling Up ... I'll probably think of more later. H-D :pimp: |
more to add Falling UP, Staple, Everyday Sunday, Fm Static, Subseven, Project 86, mercy me, phat chance, tait, kj-52 (i know hes rap)
|

I think he was just listing them as what Pillar sounded like. I didn't know Project 86 was a Christian band. That's awesome! Hmmm, learn something new every day. :D |
lol actually with chevelle, they were and i believe still are, on a christian label and their cds can be found in christian bookstores because of that. they did an interview where the guy asked if they were a christian band and they said no but they dont mind being mistaken for one, they have found a good fan base in the christian market. unlike some bands they embraced this label.
|

Yeah Project tried to disown their Christian market to do better on the mainstream market, but they came back and will be doing a tour with Pillar, Subseven, and Falling up this fall. Its going to be one great concert. I believe there are a couple of dates in your area, ill check on that for you. |
Quote:
heh actually I'm just a huge fan of their music and became a friend with the band about a couple years ago. Spirit Creek lyrics are not praise lyrics, they are more like Creed - the religious tones are there, but not coming at you head first. |
never heard of Third Day, but I have Supernatural from DC Talk and it's pretty good. Audio A has really nice tunes as well.
You can add Jars of Clay too. |
for a classic rock kinda sound check out stereo motion on flicker records.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up. :D Are all of the bands after the little dash in your list what the bands sound like? Just wondering b/c I know Cold and Breaking Benjamin aren't Christian bands. |
yes, the first band is the christian one then the dash then the bands from mainstream that they are kinda similar to. sorry for the confusion.
|
know alot of christian music/artist/bands. I like skillet, kutless, Audio A, 12stones, big dismal, switchfoot, third day, mercy me, jeromy camp, dctalk, toby mac, and todd agnew.
|
my 2 favorites
P.O.D Blindside... I know Matt (TremontiWanaB) would back me up on this, they fucking rock! I've also got stuff by: dc Talk Jars of Clay Newsboys Third Day Switchfoot (including the single "Dare You to Move", which is like 4 years old, but just now making its way onto alt-rock radio) Audio Adrenaline Demon Hunter Kutless - another really good band, new album in past 6 mos, "Sea of Faces", good stuff also, Skillet's pretty good (though i've never thought to download any of their stuff recently... now i'm inspired) saw Relient K in concert @ my church a few years back, they were pretty awesome... sorta a blink-182 of christian music (punk type stuff... short, goofy songs, that sorta thang) Seventh Day Slumber |
STRYPER :D :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Party :D
|
wow now thats a name you dont hear to often anymore
|
Bearfan, be sure to check out Skillet's new release "SAVIOR" it's awesome. The album is COLLIDE. Skillet has a female drummer she is amazing.
|
My Switchfoot cd cracked so now I have to get another one. Better yet.....I'll burn the thing off Kazaa. :D
|
12 Stones
Big Dismal Switchfoot may be others, but I'm more into non-christian bands at the moment:) There are a lot of great bands out there in both categories! |
I like Big Dismal, too.
|
wasen't stapp involved in producing big dismal, produced their demo or something along those lines? i remember the rumours of him joining them man that was funny.
|

Supertones - SKA (see album Supertones Strikeback) MxPx - You know who they are Goti Hook - Punk and yes I do own Jars of Clay and 2 dcTalk CD's (Free@last and Jesus Freak) thats what I can recall off the top of my head P.S. I remeber switchfoot I saw them like 5-6 years ago when they sucked! :) |
In the way of christian Rock, I will say Newsboys are good. As is Glo I think they are called.?
|
Quote:
newsboys are really big in the states i hear...... |
I picked up the "Los Lonely Boys" album today! Some pretty cool guitar licks (Santana-ish) & I would put them under the religious grouping with a band like P.O.D. Anyways, they came to Knoxville several weeks ago and a couple of my friends heard them. They said they did a lot more jamming/trick stuff with the guitar/bass that's not on the record. :D
|

i've heard good things about them but i didn't realise they were "christian rock". |
Someone on here mentioned Todd Agnew. I don't normally listen to Christian rock but I have a different vehicle this week and my normal station doesn't come in :) . I was flipping through the stations and heard this song I really liked. Turns out it was a Christian rock/metal station and the song was from Todd Agnew. I think the song was called "Grace of Rain" and had the lyrics from Amazing Grace in it. I picked up the cd today but haven't listened yet. :)
|
Hey, have Stavesacre been mentioned yet? They are really good man!
My faves: Stavesacre Five Iron Frenzy Skillett Insyderz Oh man, lemme think of more! I love Kings X, but they are not totally Christian, but the lyrics clearly show that certain members love Jesus, totally. Galactic Cowboys were the same type of thing. |
I haven't really listened much to Christian music. Last year I saw Reliant K in concert with my church. I really wasn't that impressed with their style of music, and I couldn't really understand the lyrics. I hear a song from a band called "Casting Crowns" I really liked it. I've only heard one song though. They will be doing a praise/worship concert like thing at a Youth Evangelism Confrence thing that I'll go to in August. The day after we go to that part we will go to a theme park in Oklahoma City called Frontier City, and that night a band called "Tait" is going to perform. Has anyone ever heard of them? If you have, what kind of music do they have, is it very good?
|
i have saxon i dont care much for their sound but they got some awsome lyrics Like This Song I Love It, Give It All You Got
|
I freakin LOVE Third Day!
|
Quote:
cool best christian band by a fair margin IMO..... |
and just so all y'all know, "Relient K" is spelled, yes, with an E, not an A as one would naturally assume
