The Best Modern Rock Song?

I was pondering... What do you all think is the best modern rock song (probably 1990-present)? It's gotta be just fucking epic in its ability to rock and every component of the song has to be top-of-the-line.

Now this isn't necessarily your favorite song... Just what you think the "best" overall is. I don't mean "best" as in it means emotional attachment to you, just the best written and best performed modern rock song.

I have to cast my vote for Aenema by Tool. I don't love everything they've put out, but this song is FUCKING AMAZING! :jam:

Here's some of my faves:
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Creed - Higher
Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name
Aerosmith - Love In An Elevator
Disturbed - Down With The Sickness
Faktion - 7 Days
Sevendust - Enemy
Linkin Park - Faint
Nickelback - How You Remind Me
Metallica - I Disappear
Saliva - Rest In Pieces
Seventh Day Slumber - I Know

I'll think of more later.

Good God, this is incredibly hard to do! I will give you that Aenema is a great song, but one of the best ones I've heard by Tool is Eulogy. Stinkfist and Hooker With a Penis also rock my world. I love Tool... /fangirl :D

Others I can think of off the top of my head:

Immortality -- Pearl Jam
Love, Hate, Love, Down In a Hole -- Alice In Chains
Say Hello to Heaven -- Temple of the Dog
Birth Ritual, Seasons -- Soundgarden
Nirvana -- Something (in the way)
Minister/Medicine Woman -- Floater

People, pretty many of the songs you write down are not really MODERN rock tracks!

RMadd 11-09-2004 04:37 PM

we're going by Hellboy's definition, 1990 to the present

Lith, I think he meant "modern" in the context of era rather than the specific type of rock.

Well, since other people are giving lists, I'll give some more what I believe to be definitive modern rock songs.

Everlong - Foo Fighters (probably the best written rock song of the last 15 years)
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush (HELL YEAH!)
Alice In Chains - Man In The Box
Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live
Velvet Revolver - Slither (I really think this one will be a classic)
Creed - My Own Prison
Audioslave - Shadow On The Sun

Well on my list would be:
Tool - Eulogy
Bush - Everything zen

Live - I alone
Creed - Higher
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
Alanis Morissette - You oughta know
K's Choice - Not an addict
