View Full Version : Our Government Needs Updating

Yesterday I asked for a prayer request for a little elderly woman that I stopped to help on the side of the road.

Today I am truly angry with our country and our government. I was able to contact the police today to ask about this dear little woman, and I was told that she had refused medical help from the paramedics, and as they could not force her to go to the hospital, her husband was called, and she was taken home without having received any medical care.

Before the police and ambulance arrived yesterday, she told me the she could not afford any more medical bills, and begged me not to call for help. I couldn't just leave her there, slumped over her steering wheel, so against her wishes, I attempted to get her the medical help that she so needed. The officer told me that he sees this all the time with elderly people he tries to assist, and he can do nothing to help.

Large pharmaceutical companies can lobby our politicians for billions of dollars, then propose to spend an estimated 180,000,000.00 to advertise Viagra in our country.

Little old people are suffering in our country, unable to get medical care, or to afford life saving medications, and drug companies are spending millions to advertise a drug to enhance the performance of men's dingles.

Now I'm sure that dingles are very important to men, but we must also place a value on the lives of our people.

No one should have to refuse medical help, because they cannot afford the cost.

Several years ago a friend visited Europe, and said that she had seen bumper stickers that read "Invest In America, Buy A Politician".

Sadly I feel that when large corporations and interest groups can lobby the votes of our politicians, the true needs and desires of the people, natural resources, and our environment suffer.

How many people die each day in our country, while we look the other way?

One word: Greed.

I just found out my mother is cutting her cholesterol pills in half to save money. Now, my parents are not destitute, by any means, but the cost of medicine and prescriptions is out of control and even people in the middle class can't afford it.

Man, whitebird, that really sucks about that lady. But its good that the world still has people like you who care. No, wait, I take that back. It's GREAT that the world is FORTUNATE enough to have people like who who care so much. IMHO, though we live in what is arguably the greatest country in the world, it's going to hell in a handbasket. People really need to quit accepting that "not everything is perfect" and actually do something about it.

I have always hoped that when I leave this world, I will leave it just a little bit better than when I entered it.

But today I'm just so hugely upset!! I can never honestly see a difference because of what I have done.

At this point, I'm not holding out much hope. The world is becomming meaner and more violent with each passing day. And those who truly care are being overruled by those who cannot see to the future.

Dogstar is right, I believe greed is a huge part of our countries problems, but many will suffer, so that a few may gain.

Whitebird, don't get discouraged. It's people like you who give the rest of the world hope. I know it can get you down. I go through similar bouts of bad feelings, but I'm like you in that I work to make my corner of the world just a little bit better. What you did I'm sure restored that woman's faith somewhat! I really hope she is OK.

I seem to come back to this site in my own times of need, thanks everyone.

Maybe, just maybe I helped in just being there, and getting her to take her medication. She did not seem able to by herself when I arrived.

As I stood there with her, I couldn't help but think that this could be my own Mother.

Dogstar, my sister just told me a couple of weeks ago the she has decided to let her nursing license expire. She no longer has the heart to work in the medical world, with the drastic and dangerous changes that are taking place, restricting care to those who need it the most.

She said that she has spoken to many elderly people who take only half their medication, to make it last longer, your Mother isn't the only one, and perhaps we would be shocked to find out how many others are doing the same.

I hope my own Mother isn't doing that too. I think I'll talk to her about this subject.

My Mother's dream was to be a nurse, she helped my sister to become one, now my sister is afraid to tell Mom that she has left nursing, as it will break her heart.

Man, that is sad, indeed, whitebird, but it must be incredibly heartbreaking to feel helpless in a field where help is supposed to be guaranteed.

Man, whitebird, more power to you for hanging in there. Plenty of people would have given up. Insurance companies gall me to no end. You pay all this money to them for years and years and when you really need the coverage, they beg off when the bill gets too high. I loathe that industry with the fire of a thousand suns.

I'm just gonna bite my tongue here, as much as i want to make a political-driven response to #9, b/c that would kill this thread.

RMadd, I you want to vote for George Bush, I believe you should. I am saying here, I understand what it is like to be the little guy, in a world of large corporate power, and how hard it can be to live, when you are ill, aged or injured. I would be thrilled if those now in power would do something to help. You see, I had a little bit of experience in this matter, and I only spout off about the subjects I have personally experienced.

If you want to kill this thread, it's a free world, and board, but I don't think that it would do much for getting your point across.

oh, i'm not knocking on your experience. i think it's great & admirable that you stopped to help and feel that something should be done. i wasn't criticizing your actions or comments directly related to this experience. i apologize if i was unclear. i was referring to a single comment in post #9 in this thread, regarding Johnny Edwards.

Higher_ Desire, Dogstar, creedsister and yes you too RMadd. I told more here on this thread about my personal past, than I have told to many who now personally know me.

My honest hope to pass along to you is, don't take your life for granted, it could change in the blink of an eye, and the world as you know it can be changed forever.

No matter who you vote for, insist that our country look after the people who love it, who have spent their lives working for it's future and their own, and in times of need look to it to support and care for them.

Being young and strong is no protection against against fate.

What If?
