New Band Name announced here (http://b2.ezboard.com/ffliponline54548frm10.showMessage?topicID=8598.topic)

Posted by Flip's mother at FlipOnline's BB.

I just talked to Scott P. tonight and he told me that they finally have a name for the new band--ALTER BRIDGE. It's a bridge in Detroit (I think) that connects one side of town with the other. They have all (15) of the drum tracks down and are working on the guitar, bass, and vocals for 3 songs to consider for the first single and video. Scott is really pleased with his drum tracks and said that things in Atlanta were going very well. Listen for them this summer to start doing publicity at various radio stations around the country. I can't wait to hear the finished sound. If it's half as good as what I heard at rehearsal it'll be super!

Personally for me, it'll take a bit of getting used to...but I like it.

I don't get it. If this is all hush-hush then why did Flip's mom tell what the band name is? I think Wind-Up should have told her to not tell anyone. But the name sounds kind of cool.

how is everyone sure this is really Flip's Mom just cause her username says it?

She probably wasn't quite as "in the loop" as much as Michael and all the people working at it. I mean, I'd tell my mom my band name. Wouldn't you?

Anyways, I was expecting something better. Or, cooler, maybe. But, now we know. It's awesome to finally hear.

The owners of that BB have confimed it, and have interacted with Mrs. Phillips off the board as well. When the name first showed up, they went about finding out if it was really her or someone with a made-up name, and it is infact Mrs. Phillips.

Anything past that, e-mail the owners of that Board. I'm just passing the info along.

We should get an announcement tomorrow. The band name was barely leaked a while ago. Remember guys, when the Creedpit girls told us about what Mark had to say in the meet and greet, that same day Wind-Up gave an official release. It's a little too late to give a release today, but tomorrow I assume is when Wind-Up will announce it.

I'd like that too...but dude that's a lot of faith in Wind-Up LOL.

And the news from the M&G was posted Sunday, release Monday. I just don't see WU putting it together in time..but who knows...maybe they'll be on the ball about something for once.

Hrmm... there's not many words that rhyme with Alter or Bridge that sound good when put together with alterbridge... guess my fan site naming scheme of having rhyming words won't work anymore :(

Oh, and BTW, alterbridge.net was registered by Dan Tremonti on April 14th...

Alter Bridge is better than most band names out there. Audioslave isn't that original of a name. Linkin Park sounds retarded. Hoobastank, huh? Alter Bridge is as original as Submersed. :D

It's funny that they decided to change their name and to lowercase the letter D in their name. They probably didn't want to be labeled in the nu-metal category. SubmurseD sounds and looks nu-metalish to me. :D

Thanks for posting that, it's very much appreciated, I keep on saying the name over and over again now

Here's what a Michigan gal said about Alter Bridge (The actual bridge LOL)...just for some background on it....I dunno it helped make sense to me.

From Shelly (StappsBabe)
Alter Bridge is indeed a bridge ...it sits on Alter Road....(That runs the length from Grosse Pointe to Detroit) and connects Grosse Pointe to Detroit.

I used to hang out in a park near the Alter Bridge...it was a place where all the "stoners" in Grosse Pointe would hang out after the bars closed.

I lived in Harper Woods then (which is about 10 min. from there) and half of my friends lived in one of the Grosse Pointe's. (there's Grosse Pointe Shores, G.P. Farms, and just plain ol' Grosse Pointe)

I think it's a great band name and awesome because only the local area would know about it otherwise. No one but the VERY local people even call it the Alter Bridge that I'm aware of and because it runs from the "rich" side of town (the Grosse Pointes) to the "poor" side of town (Detroit), it has significant meaning. It's so odd to drive down Alter road in the G.P's and see all the HUGE mansion-type houses with expensive cars in their driveways and then before you know it, ONE street over, you are faced with the harsh realities of the poor...run-down houses, unmanicured lawns and crime. VERY interesting choice for a band name IMO.

Trees of Wisdom

I wonder if that's why they chose that name.

Alter Road is the border of Grosse Pointe Park (where Mark grew up) and Detroit. I think it's a cool name especially since I'm from the Grosse Pointe area.

Well, I would say they probably weren't hurting for money. But the real money, huge mansions, etc. is in Grosse Pointe. They sub divided Grosse Pointe up and there is the Village of, City of, GP Shores, GP Farms & GP Park.

thanks for the info it sounds like Grosse Pointe is a very large place if it was divided in so many smaller areas. so is there a rivalry between Grosse Pointe and Greater Detroit? rich boys verses the poorer underclass?

Tremonticized1

I'm sure there is, but I'm closer to GP Shores which is the northern most part. I know there was rivalry between the city I grew up (Roseville) and St. Clair Shores (which is between Roseville & GPS). Roseville is the poorest of the 3.

Linkin Park is actually a name of a park where they use to hang out. Marcy Playground is also a real place that a band named themselves after (remember that 'ol song Sex and Candy?)

E-- Thanks for sharing that stuff about what the bridge does, or the significance of it. I felt like a total idiot when I read Tremonticized1's post that said Mark grew up in that area. I totally forgot he lived there for some reason.

I hope their cover isn't like The Long Road. It was semi-unoriginal. I think Dan could do a better job than something like that.

As for the cover art, well anything to do with Three Mountians (not literally, I'm talking about the art designer) will be awesome because I just LOVE all the art on Creeds albums. I'm hoping they will stay with Three Mountians, even though Daniel Tremonti did it, with Creed, hopefully he will do it with Alter Bridge

I'm honest: I have to get used to it.

Finally I got time to post here! ah, it feels good!

My first thought was Nickelback's cover. I was expecting a different name too, a one word name. (Don't ask me why. I think I got used to Creed, Evanescence, Submersed combo)

But if you think, it has plenty of meanings:

Alter Bridge, separated in two:

Alter: to change, develop, become different, improve, modify
Bridge: a connection, a path that links 2 different sides

So, are the guys implying that they are changing (their sound, their band) a while in order to experience new levels of music and personal reasons but that they are still connected with Creed? If there's a bridge, they can get back to the other side anytime they want.

I think it's pretty cool. I'm dying to listen their stuff!

And it will grow on you, like it has with all of us, at first I wasn't too sure and thoguht that it sounded a little stupid, but then I kept on saying it over and over and got to like it alot, it's cool.

I think once we hear the music, it will just gel all together. I like the name, it's different. But I think the music will just be the icing on the cake. Right now we can't associate Alter Bridge to anything sound wise. We're still all thinking it's the new band or Mark's project.
