I usually show this song to friends first, so I thought it would be the first I show to people here. Be honest. If you think it sucks let me know. lol

I wrote this in October of '02.

Merry-Go-Round

Dark town, littered ground
Lost dreams stamped in the ground
Forgetting yourself, shutting out
Opportunities collecting dust
Lonely heart dripping rust
And what are you waiting for?
Stop me now and tell me again

Drunk old man walking on the side streets
Cold outside makes you shiver inside
Still he only cares about his beverage
Sleepin' under a bridge
No warmth, no crib
Priorities gone to that black hole in the sky
And what are you waiting for?
Angels to carry you to distant shores?

Cluttered mind and washing up on shore
No thought of clarity; it's all on the floor
You got a one-way trip to the morgue
If you don't wash away the dust and let it fall down
Need to get off the fast moving death merry-go-round (verse x2)

And what are you waiting for? (x4)
Stop me now and tell me again (x2)

Nice work, SmilinSkullRing, and I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. I really like these lines:

Opportunities collecting dust
Lonely heart dripping rust

Great visuals there!
Thanks for sharing!

Hmm, maybe I should post stuff at Synergy too. :D Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks Creedsister and Dogstar for the compliments!

Yeah, most people seem to like the first verse the most. I'm partial to the merry-go-round line myself. :D

Yeah, life is a merry-go-round no matter what it seems. Sometimes we can slow it down I think. ;)

Yep, it's all about choices.

You know this whole song was inspired by seeing a guy walking with a brown paper bag in his hand which contained a beer can. It was in the low 40s or so, and would be getting colder that night. I could tell he had no home, and he didn't have a jacket yet he clung to that paper bag. As I was going home parts of that song just came to me. By the time I got in the house I got out my notebook and all of it just flowed onto paper.

It's pretty amazing where the stuff can come from sometimes, isn't it?

It really is. Songs or ideas can come from the simplest things.

Here's a quote from Bob Dylan:

"You can go anywhere in daily life and have your ears open and hear something, either something someone says to you or something you hear across the room. If it has resonance, you can use it in a song."

The man knows what he's talking about. :D
