Wow, I just read this piece and I had to share it, as it is exactly how I feel:
The world's verdict will be harsh if the US rejects the man it yearns for (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/sep/10/uselections2008.barackobama)

If Obama loses then the European community should make him a prime minister. Obama favors socialism so he'll feel right at home.

If you think that Obama and the democratic party are anywhere near the idea of socialism of the big socialist parties of Europe, you have no idea what you are talking about. The Democrats would be on the right in every European nation, the Republicans wouldn't stand a chance in Europe during elections, most people would see them as extremists.

What I do find strange as described in the article is the fact that being a popular leader abroad is a bad thing for most Americans!

Another thing that bothers me about the average American Joe, is that he'd rather have a president that he could have a beer with than someone with a good education? We noticed it with Dubya, he goes around parading with his cowboy-hat and boots and people love it and meanwhile, just as you did, they call the other side "elitists", just because they had a good education.
So in the States education is also a bad thing now, are you afraid you might learn things that upset your simple minds? Why don't you want the leader of your great country and of the free western world to have the best possible education? No, they'd rather have a 'hockey mom' with her hands on 'the button' or someone who is known to have a temper!

Thank you very much for this fine example of elitest condescension. Perhaps one day you and yours will elevate the simple and save save the world.;)

The fact that you think that the democrats are the elite, while big oil and other companies are behind Bush and consorts only emphasize your one-sided viewpoint. If there is an elite in the USA the Republican party are their party and education does not an elitist make.

"Big oil", "big companies"?, what about journalists being blocked and one being arrested for photographing attendies of the Democrats big donor dinner at the DNC convention? If you honestly believe the "evils" you mentioned above are not contributers to the Democrats then you are not worth debating.
There are quite alot of people who are employed by those "big" things you want to punish.

Well about blocking demonstrations and free speech the Republicans once again have proven to be champions over the last 8 years, so don't go there?

I have nothing against capitalism and big companies persé, I work for a company with more than 5,000 employees, but the elite of the USA are the general managers of these companies, who make the big bugs while the lowly employees often just get by!
